Ball State University's nationally affiliated, student-run public relations firm, Cardinal Communications, was selected as the top student-run firm in the nation at the PRSSA/PRSA International Conference held Oct 24-26 in Detroit. The firm was the only student-run firm from among the more than 270 chapters in the U.S. to receive the 2008 Dr. F.H. Teahan National Chapter Award for Outstanding Firm. The executive staff also participated in a panel presentation for students interested in improving their firm.
The Hoosier Chapter awarded scholarships to two outstanding students in public relations at the November luncheon. Matthew Kelly is graduate student at Ball State University and the 2008 winner of the Mel Sharpe PR Graduate Student Scholarship. Matthew's accomplishments include a stint with the Disney College Program and an internship with the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System. He is the founder of Respect for Youth, the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization at Eastern Illinois University and was president of their undergraduate PRSSA chapter and associate director of their student-run PR firm.This November Matthew was officially recognized by PR News as one of four national PR students of the year.
Jennifer Regnier is a senior at Ball State University and the 2008 Joanne Dring Memorial Scholarship winner. Jennifer served as secterary, and then president of Ball State's PRSSA chapter where she led a team a team of eight students to help promote a Bob Evans grand re-opening. Jennifer also serves as publicity chairperson for their Homecoming Steering Committee, is a member of Business Fellows, press secretary for BSU Student Government, and this year was hired on as the executive director for their student-run PR and advertising firm, Cardinal Communications.
